Home’s History
The Wilbur House, affectionately known as “Sunnyside.” This magnificent property was built circa 1887 and stands as one of the original estates along the Ashton-Colesville turnpike.
Designed in the Second Empire Victorian style, the home showcases architectural splendor characteristic of its era.
Signature features include a mansard roof, original windows, intricate indoor paneling, and detailed ceiling roses.
The house also boasts beautifully preserved hardwood floors, elegant molding, and multiple fireplaces that add to its historic charm.
As an individual site on the Montgomery County Master Plan for Historic Designation, the Wilbur House is a preserved treasure that reflects the grandeur of late 19th-century estate living.
It’s Current Status
The Wilbur House today marries historical authenticity with modern functionality.

Recent renovations include the repair of all slate tiles in 2022 and a comprehensive paint refresh both inside and out in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
These updates ensure the home remains in pristine condition while retaining its vintage appeal. The property also features a new driveway installed in 2013, which provides parking for eight vehicles.
A significant update in 2012 was the installation of a new rubber membrane roof, and in 2010, the front parlor fireplace was restored with an aluminum lining to ensure it was both functional and safe.
These thoughtful updates make the Wilbur House a unique blend of historic elegance and modern comfort, ready for contemporary living.

The outdoor living spaces are truly exceptional, with a pergola draped in mature jasmine, wisteria, and clematis, fully illuminated for evening gatherings.

Additionally, the property includes a hot tub and an outdoor shower, creating an ideal setting for relaxation and entertainment.

The entrance opens up to the sun-filled “double parlor” on the right, which boasts original floor-to-ceiling windows, an elegant arched bay window overlooking the side yard, and two stately fireplaces.

To the left of the entrance, you will find a large office equipped with built-in bookshelves and another fireplace, offering a serene and productive workspace.

This room seamlessly connects to a formal dining room adorned with wainscoting and a fourth fireplace, creating a sophisticated setting for dining and entertaining.

This area is perfect for hosting gatherings or enjoying quiet moments in a space that bathes in natural light.

The first floor is further complemented by a back staircase, a butler’s pantry, a mudroom with laundry facilities, and a half bath.
These practical spaces are thoughtfully integrated into the home’s historic layout, adding convenience without sacrificing charm.

On the second floor, the Wilbur House offers four spacious bedrooms, each exuding character and warmth, accompanied by two full bathrooms that blend vintage fixtures with modern amenities.

The third floor provides additional living space with three more bedrooms, a sitting area, a fridge, a wet bar, and another full bathroom. This upper level is versatile, perfect for guests or extended family, and offers a cozy, private retreat within the home.

At the rear of the home, a skylight eat-in kitchen awaits, featuring exposed brickwork and access to a deck, ideal for casual dining and morning coffee.
