Home’s History
The Candyland House, located in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, stands as a vibrant testament to the creative legacy of artists Don and Jackie Seiden.
Constructed in 1891, this distinctive residence has become an icon in the community, celebrated for its unique pastel-colored exterior and rich artistic heritage.

Don Seiden, a pioneer in art therapy, and Jackie, both of whom were educators at the Art Institute of Chicago, transformed this home into a live-in work of art over their 50-year marriage.
This transformation was inspired by the architectural style of the now-demolished Edgewater Beach Hotel.
Their artistic vision left a lasting imprint on the property, making it a cultural cornerstone of the neighborhood.
Its Current State
Today, the Candyland House continues to embody the spirit of creativity that defined the Seidens’ tenure. Recently, new owners Joe Bergantino and Ricky Gonzalez took over the stewardship of the house.
They began a thoughtful renovation process that respects the home’s original charm while introducing modern updates like vibrant stained glass windows and new outdoor pavers.

Their efforts are shared with an enthusiastic online community, highlighting a renovation that balances modernity with historical integrity.
This ongoing project not only preserves the artistic essence of the Candyland House but also ensures that it remains a beacon of imagination and artistic expression in Rogers Park.
