The historic Poledor House, a prime example of Craftsman-style architecture built around 1913, is set to be relocated within South Bend, Indiana, to preserve its architectural and cultural significance.
The Poledor family, Greek immigrants who arrived in 1901, owned and operated The Philadelphia confectioner’s shop and restaurant in downtown South Bend for over 70 years. In 1920, Eustis Poledor purchased the Marion Street house, which remained in the family for more than a century until Ted Poledor’s passing in 2022.
To preserve the Poledor House, St. Clair Development donated it to Indiana Landmarks, which plans to move it to 402 W. Navarre Street in the Chapin Park Historic District. The relocation, managed by Wolfe House and Building Movers, is scheduled for June 19, 2024, and will cover a distance of approximately two blocks.
Post-relocation, Indiana Landmarks will stabilize and perform minor repairs on the house before offering it for sale with preservation covenants to protect its architectural character.
