When Vidal bought two $5 Triple Red 777 scratchers at Sandy’s Deli & Liquor, he believed he had won just $200. A regular at the store, he went in to double-check his ticket, but instead, was met with a life-changing question.

Million-Dollar Question

Store manager Wilson Samaan shocked Vidal when he asked, “What are you going to do with a million dollars?” Vidal, caught off guard, replied, “I was like, huh? And that’s how I found out that I’d won a million dollars.” Samaan later drove him to Fresno to help him officially claim the prize.

Plans After the Win

Now, three months later, Vidal says he’s focused on building a new life. “Vidal is working to secure a place to go home to, with a bed, a couple of dogs, and he also plans to invest his winnings to keep the money coming in,” the California Lottery shared.

Life Before the Ticket

Vidal became homeless in 2008 after a workplace injury left him unemployed in Santa Maria. He later moved to San Luis Obispo and became a regular face at Sandy’s Deli, where he eventually bought the ticket that changed his life.
