Home’s History
The story of The Grove Inn traces back to the mid-19th century when it was originally established as a boarding house during the height of the Gold Rush in 1865.
Embracing the Italianate Victorian architectural style, this three-story building quickly became a part of San Francisco’s bustling landscape.
Its original operating certificate, dated March 11th, 1865, offers a glimpse into a bygone era when guests could stay for a mere $1.35 per night.
During this time, shared and private baths were a luxury, with each room featuring a simple wash basin.
Its Current State
Fast forward to the present day, The Grove Inn stands as a testament to resilience and dedication.
Despite facing challenges such as fire damage in the early 1980s, the property has been lovingly restored by its current owners, Rosetta and Klaus Zimmermann.

Their commitment to preserving the inn’s heritage while ensuring modern comforts has made it a beloved destination for travelers seeking a unique San Francisco experience.
Recent upgrades, including a comprehensive seismic retrofit, further enhanced the safety and comfort of the inn, ensuring a secure haven amidst the city’s dynamic landscape.
